[Previously Daniel and Agnes Holladay lived in Spotsylvania: June 7th, 1743, Daniel Holloday and Agnes, his wife, of St. George Parish, Spotsylvania County, to Thomas Pulliam of same Parish. By 25 Aug 1747 they were in Albemarle County where they witnessed the Will of Joseph Roberts, Orders 1742-1748.]

This Indenture made the Tenth day of January One thousand seven hundred and fifty Between Daniel Holladay of the County of Albemarle of one part  and Charles GILLUM of the County of Albemarle of the other part. 
Witnesseth that Daniel Holladay for the sum of Sixty five pounds to him paid hath granted unto Charles GILLUM and to his heirs a parcel of land being in the County of (scratched out) North side of the River containing 300 A. being a part of a larger tract of land granted to John Key of 400 A. by patent bearing date the sixth day of April One thousand  seven hundred and thirty four & bounded beginning at a corner black oak  on Maj. Thos. Carrs land thence on his line east to a white oak, thence south east to a markt. hickory on said line thence across the said tract to a red oak in the old line, thence to the beginning containing 300 A. together will all houses, orchards, gardens waters to same belonging. To have and to hold unto Charles GILLUM his heirs & assigns forever,
In witness thereof Daniel Holladay hath set his hand & seal in the presence of us W. Lewis, John Ragland, Henry Harper

[Daniel Holloday purchased a tract of 400 acres previously granted to John Key on 6 Apr 1734, lying in Goochland on the the west side of Little Mountains adjoining at that time Thomas Carr.
It has been said the Daniel and Agnes had removed to South Carolina by 1750, if so, it was late 1750.]

Jno. Wingfield & wife Mary; Nichl Johnston & wife Eliz.; Ro. Walton & wife Rebecca; Rich. Holland & wife Sarah, Joseph Lewis & wife Anne, and Christopher Hudson to Jno. Hudson, 7 slaves of estate of Charles Hudson, decd., Hanover Co. Assigned by Chas. Hudson to be given to Jno. Hudson, but by some oversight left out of will and Wm. Hudson, eldest son, claimed them. Lawsuit pending for sometime in General Court and finally Wm. gave up his pretensions to Jno.  Jno. now has them, but this deed to prevent any controversies- brotherly love for Jno. said slaves.

This indenture made this nineteenth day of Septr in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred sixty and one between Harden Burnley Gent of Hanover County of one part and James Sandidge of Albemarle county witnesseth that Harden Burley for sum of forty-five pounds of good and lawful money of Virginia to him paid hath sold unto James Sandidge and his heirs one tract of land lying in Alb. County of the North fork of Cunninghams creek and bounded beginning at a pine in the above said Burley’s back line thence North and East to a pine in the said Burnley lines thence south & East to pointers thence south and East to a line thence north ten degrees east to the first station containing by estimation four hundred acres be the same more or less.

Watson & is ordered to be recorded as the within deed.

This indenture made this eighth day of July 1767 between Daniel Hammack of the County of Albemarle of one part and William Ragland of the County of Louisa of the other part Witnesseth that said Daniel Hammack for sum of thirty pounds, ten shillings doth sell unto said William Ragland his heirs forever a parcell of land in the County of Albemarle on the northside of the Rivanna River containing one hundred acres and bounded by the lands of William Hammack, Charles GILLIAM and Robert Dalton.

This indenture made this fourteenth day of November in year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty eight between John GILLUM and Elizabeth his wife of Parish of St. Anns and County of Albemarle of one part and Nathaniel Giles, John Lee Webster, and John Wilkinson of Baltimore County and Province of Maryland of the other part witnesseth that whereas on the twenty seventh day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty seven said John Wilkinson did agree with the said John GILLUM for the purchase of ten acres of land lying part of the tract whereon said John GILLUM
now lives and bounded as is hereafter expressed on which sd ten acres of land it was promised and supposed that there was a quantity of iron oar for the price of twenty pound currt. money of Virginia and whereas said John Wilkinson did at the time of makeing the agreemt stile himself partner and joint adventure with said Nathaniel Giles & John Lee Webster and for and on behalf of said Nathaniel Giles and John Lee Webster and himself did make the agreement aforesaid for the said ten acres of land & for their common benefit and advantage and for the advantage and benefit of none other person or persons whatsoever. Now in pursuance of the true intent and meaning of the said agreement and that the same may be fully answered & complyed with on the part of said John GILLUM. This indenture witnesseth that John GILLUM & Elizabeth his wife for sum of twenty pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by said Nathaniel Giles, John Lee Webster & John Wilkinson doth bargain & sell (them) and their heirs all that parcel of land containing by estimation ten acres be the same more of less lying and being in the County of Albemarle being that part of said GILLUMs tract where he holes dug for iron mine and beginning for the same near a hollow at three marked trees and thence running northerly twenty eight poles to two small chestnut pointers eighteen poles thence altering the course a little southwardly including & running up the hill a westerly course thirty six poles to two chestnuts and a locust pointers for a corner, thence on easterly to the beginning mark'd trees to include ten acres of land be the same more of less to have & to hold the said tract of land as aforesaid containing by estimation ten acres be the same more or less with the appurtenances unto Nathaniel Giles, John Lee Webster, and John Wilkinson their heirs and John GILLUM his heirs will warrant and forever defend by these presents in witness whereof the parties of these presents their hands & seals interchangeably have set and affixed the day & year above written signed sealed & delivered in presents of

This Indenture made this 20th day of February One thousand seven hundred and sixty between Benjamin White of Parish of St. Anne county of Albemarle and Colony and Dominion of Virginia, Planter, of one part and John Old of Province of Pensyslvania [sic] and John Wilkinson of county aforesaid of other part Witnesseth that for sum of thirty pounds current money to him said Benjamin White in hand paid by said Old and Wilkinson before the sealing and delivery of these presents doth bargain and sell unto said John Old and John Wilkinson their heirs a certain parcel of land lying and being in Albemarle aforesaid & beginning at Captain Hudson's Corner two white oaks and a maple by a Branch, running thence on his lines north eight degrees west twenty poles to a red oak marked fore and aft north three degrees east twenty eight poles to a white oak marked by elbow, north twenty seven degrees east one hundred and twenty two poles to a white oak sapling on Hardware River, thence down the same according to its meanders in a strait line one hundred and seventy four poles to a rad oak on the river, thence into the Woods north seventy nine degrees west one hundred and forty eight poles to the first station together with all improvements profits and appurtenances thereunto belonging except two acres already sold to John Cole and assigns which is always excepted

[This deed mentions a Richard and Auther Gilliam. This is the only known record for Auther Gilliam. It is not believed that Auther is Archer/Archelaus Gilliam son of William and Mary as that Archelaus states in his pension he was born in 1754 on the Tye River, thus making him a mere 15 at the witnessing of this indenture. This Richard and Auther appears to be related John Gilliam and wife, Elizabeth, of St. Anne's Parish, who sold land "whereon John Gillum now lives" to John Wilkinson.]

This Indenture made this fifteenth day of September in the year of our Lord Christ, one thousand seven hundred & seventy between James Davenport of the county of Hanover & his wife Frances of the one part and Richard Gilliam of the Parish of St. Anne's & county of Albemarle of the other part witnesseth that the said James Davenport & Frances his wife for & in consideration of the sum of fifty five pounds to them in hand paid the receipt where of the sd James Davenport doth hereby acknowledge & confess they the said James Davenport & Frances his wife hath bargained & sold, aliened & confirmed & by these present for themselves, their heirs, etc doth bargain & sell, alien & confirm the above named Richard Gilliam his heirs & assigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land containing three hundred and twelve acres more or less lying and being in the County of Albemarle on the east side of the Ragged Mountains adjoined t he lands of James Jones, formerly the land of Joseph Anthony, & Stephen Hughes, formerly the land of John Grills and lies on the branches of Biskett Run a branch of Moore’s Creek at being the above land that was granted by letter, patent to James Davis bearing date the first day of October one thousand seven hundred forty seven & by the said Davis conveyed to Patrick Bishop & and by the said Bishop convey'd to James Davenport by deed bearing date the nineteenth day of August in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & fifty four, he the said James Davenport & Frances his wife hath devised, relinquished & forever grant unto the said Richard Gilliam his heirs and assigns all the estate right, title interest, claim or demand whatsoever of him the said James Davenport and Frances his wife in or to the above mentioned tract or parcel of land containing by estimation three hundred and twelve acres of land with the appurtenances to have & hold the said three hundred & twelve acres land above mention the appurtenances unto the above said Richard Gilliam his heirs & assigns to the only proper use & behalf of him the said Richard Gilliam his heir & assigns forever the said James Davenport and for himself & his heirs the said three hundred & twelve acres of land with the appurtenance & every part thereof against him his heirs & against all & every other person or persons whatsoever to the said Richard Gilliam his heirs or assigns shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents in witness whereof the said James Davenport & Frances his wife hath set their hands and affix'd their seal this day & year above written

Charles Lewis and William Watson doth hereby acknowledge and of every part and parcel thereof doth clearly acquit, exonerate and discharge the said William Gilham that granted bargained and sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell alien and confirm unto the said William Gilham and his heirs a certain tract or parcel of land contain one hundred and sixty seven acres and one half acre laying and being into he aforesaid county of Albemarle on both sides of the north fork of Hardware river being part of a large tract of three hundred and thirty five acres which formerly did belong to Claudius Buster and that part thereof which the said Claudius purchased from his brother John Buster and which larger tract is bounded as followeth beginning at Mildred Merewether’s corner hickory sapling running thence on new lines north thirty nine degrees east two hundred and sixty two poles to a chestnut oak and south seventy degrees east ninety four poles to a red oak in Colo. John Bolings lines thence on the same south nineteen degrees west three hundred and thirteen poles to Hugh Morris's corner pointers this line crosses the north fork of Hardware thence along Morris’s line west two hundred and twenty four poles to his corner hiccory in Mildred Merewether’s line thence on her line north thirty degrees east one hundred and forty poles crossing the north fork of Hardware to the first station and now being wholly in the possession of the said William Gilham with all houses, ways easement and advantages whatsoever to the said land and premises belonging or appertaining and also all the state right title interest claim or right property or possession whatsoever of them the said Col Charles Lewis and William Watson etc in and to the same to have and to hold the said land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said William Gilham his heirs and assigns forever and the said Colo. Charles Lewis and William Watson jointly and severally and their joint and several heirs the said land and premises above mentioned with the appurtenances to the said William Gilham his heirs and assigns against them the said Colo Charles Lewis and William Watson and their heirs and all other persons, will warrant and forever defend by these presents in witness whereof the said Colo Charles Lewis and William Watson have set their hand and seals hereto day and year above specified.

This indenture made this second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy two between David Barnett of Albemarle County of the one part and Peter Gillum of the said County of the other part witnesseth that the said David Barnett for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen pound current money of Virginia hath granted bargained and sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien release and confirm unto the said Peter Gillum and his heirs and assigns one tract or parcel of land lying and being in the Albemarle county on the head Branch Hardiway [sic] River on the south side of Heards River one hundred acres more or less and bounded as followeth
To wit Beginning at a Crawford’s corner on a hickory and chesnut on the top of the said Heards Mountain running thence on the said Crawford line down the ridge to the said Peter Gillum line thence on his line crossing the spur of the said Mountain and joining Henry Herd s line upon a Creek thence on the said Herds line and cornering on a gum and poplar thence up the mountain running a new line to the top cornering upon a chestnut oak tuning thence on the top of the said mountain to the first station together with all and singular the premises hereby granted with their and every of their appurtenances with all ways waters and water courses easements, profits, commodities, hereditaments, advantages and appurtenances whatsoever to the said lands and premises above mentioned or any part thereof belonging or in any wise appertaining thereto to have and to hold the said tract of land and premises hereby granted with their appurtenances to the said Peter Gillum his heirs and assign forever and the said David Barnett for himself his heirs and assigns doth promise covenant and grant to and with the said Peter Gillum his heirs and assigns shall and lawfully ___ from hence doth forever hereafter peaceably and quietly have hold occupy possess and enjoy the said tract or parcel f land and premises above mentioned to be here by granted wit their and every of their appurtenances and kept harmless from all former and other bargains whatsoever and that the said David Barnett his heirs an assigns shall at the proper costs and charges of him the said Peter Gillum his heirs or assigns shall at the reasonable request of him the said Peter Gillum shall make all conveyance and conveyances in the law to make a good and lawful right to the said Peter Gillum and to his heirs and assigns forever to the above mentioned lands and premises

This Indenture made this fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and seventy four between Richard Gilliam of the county of Albemarle and is [his wife] Mary of the part and Thomas Jones of the same county of the other part Witnesseth that the said Richard Gilliam and Mary his Wife for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five pounds to them in hand paid the receipt whereof the said Richard Gilliam doth hereby acknowledge and confess they the said Richard Gilliam and Mary his wife hath bargained and sold aliened and confirmed and by these present for themselves thief heirs etc doth bargain, and sell alien and confirm too the above named Thomas Jones his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land containing three hundred and twelve acres more or less lying and being in the county of Albemarle on the east side of the Ragged Mountains adjoining the land of James Jones formerly the lands of Joseph Anthony and Stephen Hughes formerly the land of John Grills and lies on the Branches of Biskett Run a Branch of Moore Creek, it being the same land that was granted by letter patent to James Davie bearing date the first day of October one thousand seven hundred and forty seven and the said David conveyed to Patrick Bishop and by the said Bishop conveyed to James Davenport by deed bearing date the nineteenth day of August in the year of Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and fifty four and by the said Davenport conveyed to Richard Gilliam by deed acknowledged at a Court held for Albemarle in October 1774 the deed bearing date fifteenth day of September 1770 and the said Richard Gilliam and Mary his wife hath remissed, released and forever quit claim unto the said Thomas Jones his heirs and assign al the state rite [sic] title, interest, claim and demand whatsoever of his the said Richard Gilliam and Mary his wife of in or to the above mentioned tract or parcel of land containing by estimation three hundred and twelve acres with the appurtenances to have and to hold the said three hundred and twelve acres of land above mentioned with the appurtenances unto the above said Thomas Jones his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Thomas Jones his heirs and assigns and the said Richard Gilliam for himself and his heirs the said three hundred and twelve acres of land with the appurtenances and every part thereof against him and his heirs and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever to the said Thomas Jones his heirs or assign shall and will warrant and forever defend by these present in witness whereof the said Richard Gilliam and Mary his wife hath set their ands and affixes their seals the day and year above written
